Trade Day in Macon To paraphrase Darth Vader:I feel a disturbance in the Force, it is strong in this one. In fact, that disturbance was so strong it was felt from Macon all the way to Dalton. There were more Pro III's, other equipment and cash changing hands so quickly that no one could keep up without a score card. In fact, Pro III's seem to be multiplying before our eyes. It has been reported that what was thought to have been a serious tragedy at the Sykes Taylor, K4MST, QTH has been averted. All is well that ends well - which is great news! But one word of caution - don't let your pet take a nap around Sykes or the pet may be declared as passing on to that great antenna farm in the sky prematurely!

Joe X's Big Erection
The crew gathered, lunch was eaten at the Garden Patch and the Concrete Truck arrived. Then we all watched as Joe X had an erection at his QTH. The event was successful and Milton, Van and Joe X did a lot of work as the rest of the crew looked on. Take a look at the pictures from the event. Thanks to Sid, Van, PK and Sandy for the pictures. They are in the Photo Album under the Joe X Erection.

Milton Lays Hands on Gary's Big One!
The Berghof can be a magical place at times and this account is no exception. Recently Gary (W4CSW) brought his big new amp to Milton (N4DA) for a laying on of hands. Certainly the legend of Milton's ability to bring dead electronics back to life has never been exaggerate and this account will most likely add to that legend. Gary's amp had been to a number of places for repair and each stop had both repaired and then add to the problems the amp had. It would not tune up, needed a band switch repaired, the tuned input needed attention and the plate choke needed to be rewound. The last stop for this amp was the Berghof to allow Milton the final stab at sorting it out and getting it on the air. The amp was well on its way to recovery when Gary picked it up recently and it can be reported that it is now on the air from Gary's QTH. Milton reports that it puts out legal limit with 400 watts in - oops I mean 400 mw in. Once again Milton's magical touch has brought an ornery piece of equipment around to working order. In a related story: It has been reported that the Berghof has been upping its armaments, so be careful when approaching unannounced.
The Country Uncle Annual Christmas Party
was held and photographic evidence of the happening has been placed in the "Christmas 2011" tab of the photo album on this web site. Gifts were exchanged, Milton honored us with a stirring performance on the IPad Accordion and a good time was had by all. Thanks to Larry and JoeX (actually Sandy) for their pictures - more may be coming soon. In addition, the Country Uncle Poet Laureate (Tony KE4PK) has produced another Gem. Here Tis...
Country Uncles' Christmas By Tony KE4PK
Christmas is upon the Uncles again We've gathered for fun, it's good that we can. The year has been good, we're all still here, And hopefully we can say the same next year.
There have been a few things that have happened this year And we'll mention only one, while we are all here.
A certain Uncle it seems, loves to burn firewood. He says it heats his house and does real good. But in order to do this he has to kill and cut trees. I think one got even, and brought him to his knees. (and back, butt and elbows)
The Ghost Rider made it through the big fallen tree but the bike he was riding is only a memory. He's bought another bike, with a big motor for fun, Has the forest forgiven him are the trees really done?
As he rides through the back woods, a grin on his face Will the trees attack in a different place?
Country Uncles make an appearance at the 2011 Stone Mountain Hamfest
The Country Uncles were in full attendance at the recent Stone Mountain Hamfest. Breakfast was well attended at the normal IHOP location. Several awards were given out including the official Ref Shirts to Milton N4DA and Joe W4JSM. Some Awards have ben cencored from our web sites - you had to be there. Albeit cold a good time was had by all. See all the photos in the Photo Album under the STN MTN 2011 tab or click here
Country Uncle DX Club Annual Awards Ceremony
The Country Uncle DX Club once again held its Annual Awards Ceremony. This year due to the over whelming expected attendance it was held at two different venues over a weeks time to allow the greatest number of people to attend. Both events were SRO (Standing Room Only) and audience participation was welcomed. Heckling as in the past was heavy. As usual, the Master of Ceremonies was Milton Lord, N4DA. Milton did the presentations this year to both award recipients. As usual Milton made heartfelt presentations for both awards. There was not a dry eye in the place following his remarks.
The first annual "Shoot From The Hip" award went to Van Smith KW4CC. All present agreed that this prestigious award was greatly deserved by Van. Congratulations to Van.
The next award to be presented was the Country Uncle DX Club's "Ham Of The Year." Last year's recipient of the award, Milton Lord N4DA, per Country Uncle tradition, made the presentation to this year's winner - Bill Morton W4ASE. Milton, as usual was smooth in his stirring award presentation. There was some controversy about voting irregularities, misrepresentation of the possible winners and a possible pay for play scandal but all was straightened out and put right by the CU Chaplin, Van Smith KW4CC, and the award was presented with no cloud of suspicion. Bill, when reached for comment said, "This is a great honor and I am very proud to be this year recipient of this prestigious award, I will do my best to follow in Milton's foot steps while representing the Country Uncles, but the bar was set very high by Milton, it will be a tough act to follow."
Country Uncles Unveil Official Hat and Award Pin Program
The Country Uncle DX Club is proud to announce the arrival of the official Country Uncle DX Club cap. You may order one with your call sign on the back by contacting Milton N4DA either by phone or email (firstname.lastname@example.org). The cost is $25, which includes the official Country Uncle Mic pin which is a replica of a Shure SM58 microphone. The hats really look sharp.
At this time, we are also proud to announce the Country Uncle Pin program for outstanding performance by a Country Uncle. These pins will be awarded for various deeds above and beyond the call of duty performed by members of the Country Uncle DX Club. It should be noted that the awarding of these pin is at the sole discretion of the Awards Committee, all decision are final and there is no appeal process in place. The awards program begins Feb 2nd 2011 past deeds do not count, as this is a zero base program. Besides the Mic Pin that is available to every Country Uncle, there is a Gold Star Pin awarded for outstanding performance in various Country Uncle activities, a Golden Eagle for exceptional assistance to another Country Uncle, and the Golden Light Bulb pin for a great idea that benefits all of the Country Uncles.
Country Uncle Membership
To be eligible for a Country Uncle Hat you must first be a Country Uncle DX Club member. Membership is by invitation only after a unanimous vote of the Membership Committee. Once you have been invited to join and have accepted the invitation you will receive a Country Uncle DX Club badge. At this point you become eligible to order the Country Uncle Hat from Milton and participate and receive Country Uncle Award Pins.
CU Christmas Party 2010
The CU annual Christmas get together was held Saturday Dec 18th '10 at the Bay Breeze. Check out the Photo Album under the Christmas 2010 tab or just click here. A good time was had by all. Santa made an appearance and "appropriate" presents were handed out to all. It is always good to get together with friends at this time of the year and this occasion was truly a good one. One CU seems to be sporting some new Bling. However, after reviewing the photo album one phrase does seem to have more meaning to your editorial staff -
"A Face for Radio"

Van KW4CC wins CU Fall Contest
At a recent CU Breakfast meeting, Van Smith KW4CC was awarded a plaque for his first place achievement in the CU Fall DX Contest. Van admitted that he had found a couple of Black Beauties left over from his College days and pulled a couple of all night'ers to pull ahead of his closest competitors - Dennis K4NV and N4DA Milton. Congratulations to Van for a job well done.

New Tab introduced on the Country Uncle's Web Site CU Shacks
With the now popular web cam in use by a number of Country Uncles we are all getting a small peek into the shacks of fellow Country Uncles. However, a more in depth view is needed. So a new tab has been added to the Country Uncle Web site - CU Shacks. A selection committee has be appointed to select the shacks each month. The Selection Committee is proud to announce the inaugural shack for review - Dennis K4NV. Click on the CU Shacks tab above and then the K4NV drop down. Each month we will pick another Country Uncle Shack to review. Your turn will come - of course that is a threat not necessarily a promise.

Two Country Uncles have now been officially recognized for a great performance in the 160 CQWW SSB Contest. Milton N4DA and Dennis K4NV operated from Dennis' QTH this past February. They placed 1st in Multi Operator in Georgia, 19th in the World, 8th place in North America, 6th place in the US and number 1 in the 4th call area. Their score was 269,404 which resulted from over 1200 contacts. Dennis was contacted for comment on this great achievement: "As you can imagine we are both very proud of our efforts, we had no idea we did so well." Make sure you congratulate both Milton and Dennis when you hear them on the air for their performance.
Here is a poetic submission from Tom WT4J. (the web editor apologizes for not getting this up sooner - time is one thing none of us seem to have enough of these days! I think Tom has captured that feeling in his Poem)
That little old hamshack
The summer is fading and the air is getting cool I've fixed all my antennas and covered the pool Put away the tools that were left on the floor In that little old hamshack just out the back door.
Work bench is empty and I won't be building again. The computer is flashing with some RTTY coming in But if I lean back to rest I'm sure I'll snore In that little old hamshack just out the back door.
I have spent many happy hours listening to good friends Of the joy that has been mine there is just no end But there is coming a day when it will be no more In that little old hamshack just out the back door.
When its comes my time to say a final 73 To close the door and hang up the key You just might hear a old ham calling CQ From that big hamshack up in the sky so blue.
The Country Uncles showed up well in the K4M box race. 4 Uncles showed up in the Zone 5 top 100. There were a possible 19 blocks available. The following Uncles show up in the Zone 5 top 100. It should be noted that there are a lot of ties (same number of blocks filled by a number of Hams) and the top 100 only represented 8 places due to box count ties.
W4JSM - Shown as #14 with 15 out of a possible 19 boxes - actually in 3rd place N4DA - Shown as #19 with 14 out of a possible 19 boxes - actually in 4th place W4HX - Shown as #40 with 13 out of a possible 19 boxes - actually in 5th place K4JRS - Shown as #59 with 12 out of a possible 19 boxes - actually in 6th place
See the final zone 5 standings chart under the "DX Information" Tab
The following submission comes from an upstart Country Uncle poet - Tom WT4J. Tom took pen to paper and complied his poetic thoughts concerning the current gremlins that seem to be attacking Van's (KW4CC) QTH.
Sometimes when emotions seem to swell It can get very hard for one to tell What the trouble might be But between you and me A gremlin might have just cast a spell
All of the coax connectors real tight There just seems to be nothing in sight To create all this mess And cause all this stress I must not be doing something right
It really does no good to sit and stare But when I check with friends on the air I just flipped this switch Did that do the trick NO!! the distortion is still in there.
So PK we just might as well Get someone to UNCAST this spell To get the demon nixed And Van?s rig fixed And then I hope all will be well...
The Country Uncle Poet Laureate (Tony KE4PK) has dipped his pen into the ink well once again and produced another true life depiction of the daily strugle of the Country Uncles
DO WE NEED A PRIEST ? UNCLE VAN HAS A PROBLEM IN HIS SHACK, THE RF ON HIS SIGNAL KEEPS COMING BACK. HIS EQUIPMENT IS REALLY WONDERFUL "STUFF" AND FINDING THE PROBLEM SEEMS VERY TOUGH.
THE RADIO DOCTOR HAS MADE A HOUSE CALL, AND CHECKED OUT THE EQUIPMENT FROM WALL TO WALL. THE CONNECTIONS AND CABLES HAVE ALL BEEN CHECKED, EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN MOVED AND THE SHACK APPEARS TO BE WRECKED. IF THAT FT-9000 OR AMP STARTS SPEWING GREEN SOUP, THEN WE'LL KNOW FOR SURE IT'S NOT A GROUND LOOP. THERE IS NO DIAGNOSIS, OR CAUSE AT THIS HOUR, COULD IT BE THAT THE SHACK NEEDS A "HOLY WATER" SHOWER ?
The ladies of the Country Uncle Auxiliary do a good deed for the homeless in Huntsville, Alabama
Apparently, while in Huntsville for the '09 Huntsville HamFest the ladies of the Country Uncle Auxiliary found some homeless men and decided to feed them a good meal which is consistent with their community outreach program. While they did not seek any recognition, It is totally appropriate for us to thank these fabulous Ladies and ambassadors of the Country Uncles for this wonderful humanitarian effort. They are truly Saints for taking in these haggard and down trodden men and feeding them. Hopefully, the homeless guys found a place to stay after the meal. More pictures in the photo album in the H'ville '09 tab - Thanks to Sandy Rogerson for the photos
The Country Uncles mount up for a ride down to see JoeX
The only thing to say is that Joe is doing just great. The group took him out to lunch in Macon and we all looked over the 560' loop antenna at Joe's QTH. Milton has fixed Joe's amp so he should be off the battery powered SKY Walker and back on a real amp now. A little antenna work was headed up by Sid and PK so Joe's station is in top order.

Apparently according to a reliable source - Two country Uncles Van KW4CC and Joe W4JSM have secured two highly sophisticated scooters to use at the Dayton Hamvention...
More Prose from the Country Uncle Poet Laureate Tony "PK" KE4PK
This time concerning the rash of trading that has been going on...
Spring Time on 3.778 or The Uncles having a feeding (trade) Frenzy
It seems that Jordan came down to trade with Joe, Little did he know that the deal would not go. He had brought a Yaesu 2000, "Pristine", You know. He was to receive for it, a "Like New" ICOM Pro!
During lunch it seems that things went amuck when Joe found out that he could get a 7800 and save some bucks. Joe suddenly backed out of the Yaesu 2000 deal, and traded with Van for an ICOM 7800 at a STEAL.
Jordan was left out of the trading scene, the thought of loosing that trade almost made him turn green. He had intentions of owning that "Like New" PRO, but his downfall was trying to trade with Joe!
Joe has a 7800 and Van had a Pro and Joe's money, and Van says that "Like New" ICOM PRO is really a honey. Jordan went home and whined about the deal to Marie, She said "That's OK baby, it wasn't meant to be".
The Country Uncles award their most prestigious recognition award of the year, "HAM of the Year" to: Milton Lord N4DA
The Country Uncles are proud to award the "Ham of the Year" to Milton Lord, N4DA Milton continues to have a very strong presence in the Ham radio world, a friend to all and a honest and open member of the Country Uncles. A Ham that is always willing to help others and share his own trials and tribulations along life's super highway. Congratulations to Milton!

The Butler Georgia Gun Store Run So what do Amateur Radio Operators and Guns have in Common? And just as important what do Sykes and Barbara have in common with Joe M. Well, the first question is open for discussion and conjecture - but the answer to the second question is simple - Lemon Poppy-Seed Muffins? There may be more of a story there than we know. See the "Guns" tab in the Photo section for more details...

Dolly under the knife at KE4PK Seems Tony is not the only one having a bit of surgery at his QTH. See the Photo Album "KE4PK" tab for a better view of the latest surgery on Dolly.
The Country Uncle Poet Laureate has penned another Masterpiece
Tony (I now have two Bionic Knees) KE4PK has been busy during his recent time off.
FALL IS HERE
FALL HAS ARRIVED, THE WEATHER IS COOL, THE DAYS ARE SHORTER AND KIDS ARE BACK IN SCHOOL. THE UNCLES ARE ALL BUSY DOING THEIR CONTEST THING, AND 80 METERS DIES OUT EARLY IN THE EVENING.
I DECIDED THAT SINCE IT WAS EARLY IN THE FALL I WOULD GET A NEW KNEE AND HAVE IT INSTALLED. THEY SENT ME DOWN TO GOO OL' ST. JO TO REPAIR MY PROBLEM CLEAR TO MY TOE.
THEY TOOK ALL OF MY CLOTHES AND DRESSED ME IN A GOWN, AND WARNED ME ABOUT SITTING DOWN (BREEZY). THEY LOADED ME ONTO A TRAVELING GURNEY, AND WENT DOWN THE HALL, NOT MUCH OF A JOURNEY.
IT WASN'T VERY LONG, AND MY LEGS WERE NUMB AND THE MEDS IN MY IV MADE ME FEEL KINDA DUMB. MY SURGEON LOOKED DOWN AND SAID "ARE YOU READY OL' MAN?" I SAID "I GUESS SO, DO THE BEST THAT YOU CAN."
THEY HUNG UP A SHEET SO THAT I COULDN'T SEE, AND I COULD HEAR HIM BANGING AND WHACKING ON MY KNEE. IT DIDN'T TAKE LONG AND THE DOCTOR WAS DONE, HE PEEPED OVER THE SHEET AND SAID "NOW YOU'VE GOT ANOTHER NEW ONE."
I EASED OFF TO SLEEP AND WHEN I CAME TO THEY SAID I HAD A COUPLE OF THINGS TO DO. "YOU'VE GOTTA' MOVE YOUR FOOT AND WIGGLE YOUR TOE. AND THEN OFF TO YOUR ROOM YOU WILL GO."
THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO GETTING A NEW KNEE, I SURE AM GLAD I HAD THE SURGERY.
2008 Fall Classic Country Uncle Contest Details
The Country Uncle Fall Classic Contest is about half over and there are some clear leaders. However, none seem to want others to know of their point standing so all we can say is good luck to all. I am sure Milton is really looking forward to checking all the logs in January. The contest runs October 1st 2008 till December 31st 2008.
Yes it is a

The Country Uncles attend Huntsville Hamfest.... While the editor could attempt to provide detailed coverage of the Van shopping trip (I am sure it will be a while before all the details are released - to steal a phrase - what happens in Huntsville stays in Huntsville), birthday party and the events at the Huntsville HamFest (it seems Thursday Nights will not be fun any more) - I think the essence of the Huntsville trip for the Country Uncles has been captured in a poem by Tony KE4PK.
TO A HAMFEST THE UNCLES OF THE COUNTRY DID GO,
THEY ALL HAD TO SEE THE BIG HUNTSVILLE SHOW.
UNCLE VAN HAD A BIRTHDAY WHILE HE WAS THERE
AND THEY WANTED TO BUY HIM SOMETHING TO WEAR.
IT SEEMS THAT THE STORE WAS OUT OF HIS SIZE,
BUT THERE WERE LOTS OF THINGS TO GIVE HIM A RISE.
THE THINGS THEY SHOPPED FOR COULD POSSIBLY BE FUN,
BUT THE UNCLES OF THE COUNTRY DIDN'T EVEN BUY ONE.
INSTEAD THEY CHOSE TO LOOK AT RADIO GEAR,
IN LIEU OF THE Weird AND STRANGE THINGS TO WEAR.
THE UNCLES BOUGHT WIRE, AMPS, AND RADIO JUNK,
AND LOADED ALL THEIR GOODIES INTO THEIR TRUNK,
LATER THAT EVENING ON 3.778,
THEY ALL RAVED ABOUT HOW THE HAMFEST WAS GREAT.
IT SEEMS THAT THE UNCLES ALL HAD A GOOD TIME, SO, WITH THAT, I'LL END THIS TACKY LITTLE RHYME.
Country Uncle Mobile Works Christmas Island
KE4PK/5 worked the Christmas Island Station VK9XHZ on July 20th 2008 at 1220 Zulu - from his Motor home mobile - we are unaware of any other station working the Christmas Island station MOBILE. Congratulations to Tony, another fine Country Uncle Operator.
A SHOCKING Reality
Well as the old saying goes - fool me once shame on me fool me twice shame on... Well at least two Country Uncles have decide to learn a lesson from Van's (KW4CC) recent bout with an act of God - Lightning. The Country Uncle Chaplin was hit a few weeks ago by lightning at his home station doing extensive damage to his equipment. Now one could write and entire story on the relationship between an act of God (a Lightning Strike at Van's house) befalling the Country Uncle Chaplin - but that is a story for another day. Still one does have to question just how close the Chaplin is to...? However, the good news is that Van decided that surge protection may be in order and he and Joe (W4JSM) have each "Invested" in some additional station protection in the form of an APC UPS. This revelation came to the two of them after the last Country Uncle Board of Directors meeting at which time "The Lord" Milton N4DA suggested possibly some additional protection may be in order for both Van and Joe. We wish the Country Uncle Chaplin well with his new equipment installation.
It should be noted that after the lightning strike incident several Country Uncles have question the credentials of the Chaplin. More when available.
Country Uncles DX Club holds first Stockholders/Board of Directors Meeting
6/30/2008 While not all Board of Directors (BOD) and Stockholders (SH) where present, enough were there for a quorum. It is a common misunderstanding that the BOD runs a company. As everyone knows the BOD only can function at the pleasure of the SH's. The BOD is elected and directed by the SH's. In addition the SH's have the total power to fire the BOD at a moments notice - and of course history is full of instants where that has happened. Complete Pictures are in the Photo Album under the "BOD Meeting" tab. In the picture below see if you can pick out the Stockholder and the BOD member and holds the true power - I think you will find it easy to do

New Photos There are two new photo tabs in the Photo Album, one from a recent Club Luncheon the Friday before Dalton and the other group from a past work day. Thanks to Sid K4JAN for providing us the Photos.
Also some additional shots from Jim of his new operating position have been added in the K4JRS station review - updated.
Operating Excellence Recognized This next item would normally be in the DX section - but I think that theCountry Uncle DX Clubalways wants to recognized achievement, hard work and particularly improvement in operating skills by one of our esteem members. This next graphic says it all, very little additional can be said:
20 out of 22 Band Slots...
Yes, Joe is to be commended - CW, RTTY and Phone - 20 out of 22 Band slots - W4JSM has made some significant communication skill improvements down at the Sparta Station.
Dalton HamFest Cold... But a lot of Fun! Photos in the Photo Album under "Dalton '07"
From the room reservations to the Dinner he hosted at the Dalton Elks club Friday night everything was first class. Thank You James! It almost makes me wish that we had not charge all the rooms and the Elks club dinner to James' credit card. I am sure once the bills come rolling in and James realizes what we have done he would appreciate you reiterating again how much you appreciated his very gracious hospitality in Dalton... Guess we might need to make other arrangements next year as I doubt we could run this scam by James again?
It is Hard to Hide Class!
When you are traveling to a distant place it is always great to have one of the locals help make your stay more comfortable. James Jordan W4FLP made all of us that attended the Dalton HamFest feel right at home.
It is Rumored The Editor has learned that one of the Country Uncles made a serious investment in CW equipment at the Dalton HamFest. Well a code reader and memory keyer anyway. Stand by for high speed CW to be on the air soon.

Remote Country Uncle Club House
The Country Uncle DX Club is very excited to be ready to put this rare DX location on the air very soon. Grid Squares are being checked. Antennas are being engineered. QSL Managers being selected. DXCC status is being reviewed in anticipation of this very remote and rare location going on the air very soon. One can only imagine the pileups that will result.
New Country Uncle Motto
Once in a while someone comes up with something that is simply brilliant - once again Milton Lord, N4DA, has come up with a gem. We have now adopted an new Country Uncle DX Club Motto -
Together... Yes we can!
This simple motto says just about everything that the Country Uncle DX club stands for. Thanks to Milton again for this perfect turn of a phrase.
4 Square Up at KW4CC
Nov 10th 2007 - It was a very long day - the smell of Ben Gay filled the air as the Country Uncles worked tirelessly to Erect the 4 Square antenna farm at Van KW4CC's QTH. The day ended with a bunch of very tired Uncles and even more sore muscles, but it has been rumored that sleep that was not lacking Saturday night. On Air testing has been delayed pending receipt of the controller. See the compete photo layout in the Photos section "Erection 11/10/07"

How Many Country Uncles does it take to change a tire?
More than you might think!
The site survey was done, the engineering drawings were printed, R&D competed (wire inside or outside the fiberglass), construction materials secured and on the site, the VIP viewing area was established an then bolstered by some of the finest hand tools known to man all provided by Van KW4CC– a Razor sharp axe, a chain saw honed to a precision cutting edge, ample Gorilla Glue, every conceivable hand tool ready at a moments notice and of course Duct Tape the Country Uncle Erection team started the day with the highest expectations for a successful Erection. The good news is a great time was had by all and at the very least everyone laughed a lot. The bad news is that the learning curve was steeper than expected so another fun filled day will need to be scheduled. See all the photos in the Photo album - ERECTION 10/20/07
